Trujillo , a Celtiberian town, Turgalium, was one of the founding centres of the Roman empire from 206 b. c. till in 414 a . d. when it became under Visigoth domain. The Muslim domain in 714. The Christian Reconquest took place in 1232.

From the 12 th century the nobility and the clergy settle in Trujillo starting the construction of palaces, manor houses and churches. It is in the 15 th and 16 th centuries when it reaches its constructive heyday.

The guilds gain great power and importance in Trujilo. A great number of streets are still named after some of these guilds (“zurradores”, “tintoreros”…)
